Sayyidinah Ubaadah bin Saamit Radiyallahu Anhu reported that, one day, upon Ramadhaan drawing near, Nabi Sallalahu Alayhi Wasalam said: “Ramadhaan, the month of blessings, has come to you. Therein Allah turns towards you and sends down to you His special Mercy, forgives faults, accepts prayers, looks at your competitions for the greatest good and boasts to His Malaa’ikah about you. Therefore, show to Allah your righteousness from yourselves. Verily the most pitiable and unfortunate one is the one who is deprived of Allah’s Mercy during this month.” (Tabraani)
Ramadhaan is the month during which the Qur'an was sent down as a guide to mankind and also as a Clear Sign for guidance and judgment (between right and wrong). Thus, every one of you who is present (at his home) during this month, should spend it in fasting. However, if anyone is ill or on a journey, then the prescribed period of fasting (which he has missed) should be compensated for by fasting at a later stage. Allah intends every facility for you. He does not want to put you through any difficulties. He wants you to complete the prescribed period of fasting and to glorify Him. In that He has given you guidance … that perchance ye shall be grateful.
Allah Ta’ala says in the Quraan:
“When My servants ask thee concerning Me, I am indeed close (to them). I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calls upon Me. Let them also, with a will, listen to My Call and believe in Me so that they may walk on the Right Way.”
In another verse it is mentioned:
“We have secured every man’s fate around his own neck. On the Day of Judgment We shall bring out for him a scroll which he will see, spread open.”
